ESSENTIALS

The CrossFit stimulus—constantly varied high-intensity functional movement coupled with meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar—prepares you for the demands of a healthy, functional, independent life and provides a hedge against chronic disease and incapacity. This stimulus is elegant in the mathematical sense of being marked by simplicity and efficacy. The proven elements of this broad, general, and inclusive fitness, in terms of both movement and nutrition, are what we term our CrossFit Essentials.

Are You Sick, Well, or Fit? Why You Need to Track Your Health Markers

2

CrossFit defines fitness as the ability to perform a wide range of tasks across various movements and durations, and health as the sustained capacity to do so throughout one's life. Health exists on a continuum from sickness to fitness, with optimal health providing a buffer against disease. Tracking both performance and health markers, such as blood sugar levels, lipid profiles, and physical performance metrics, is crucial for understanding and improving overall well-being. By consistently adopting healthy behaviors, you can move further along the continuum toward peak fitness, enhancing long-term vitality and resilience against disease and decrepitude.

New CrossFit Hero Workouts Added For Memorial Day

A Hero workout is not just a test of fitness; it is a trial of mental fortitude. When a typical CrossFit athlete is briefed on a Workout of the Day, they look at the Rx’d option and decide whether it’s suitable to their ability. Committing to the most difficult level of the workout, that is still appropriate to your physical and mental capacity, is a promise to the fallen to try to experience a tiny speck of the pain and effort they endured. We recently added six new Hero workouts: Buriak, ODA 7313, Goose, Pikey, Gale Force, and Northrup.

With CrossFit and her determination, King found an accepting community at Pembrokeshire, improved her confidence, strength, and body control, and has been able to live an independent life, watching her kids grow up. “The reason I keep coming back to CrossFit is because I'm getting stronger each day, which enables me to hold my body up much easier, carry out daily tasks much easier, carry the shopping on my own, carry my cup of coffee without spilling it.” King, a neuromuscular adaptive athlete, has big plans for the 2024 competitive season — make it to the CrossFit Games.
