Open Test 23.2A & 23.2B

23.2A:
Complete as many reps as possible in 15 minutes of:
5 burpee pull-ups
10 shuttle runs (1 rep=50 ft)
- Add 5 burpee pull-ups after each
round.

Immediately followed by 23.2B:
5 minutes to establish:
1-rep-max thruster (from the floor)

Post reps completed and thruster weight to comments and submit your results as part of the 2023 CrossFit Games Open.

As rx'd, 112 reps for part A.  185# for part B.


Got through 22 of the round of 25 burpee pull-ups.  Felt good with my effort here – no real breaks.  Pace definitely slowed in later rounds, but felt pretty consistent on burpee pull-ups.  Missed the bar on 2 of the jumps, but they were in early rounds.  Shuttle runs were jogs to start and barely jogs by the end.


On the thruster, I took a couple minutes to recover, hit 155, then 185.  Missed at 205 and 195.  The jump to 205 was dumb (but classic me), as I had only warmed up to 195.  I had no shot at hitting that weight after part A.  As it was, I only had about 30 seconds left, and was not able to get 195 overhead.  Pretty sure I could have had 195 if I had tried that first.

burpee pull-ups sucked as expected, tried to use the runs as recovery but those also sucked during the end. 205 lbs. is my current 1RM from the rack on Thrusters, so can't complain about hitting 195!

I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes but driveway is at an incline. The shuttle runs were more of a shuttle trot. Legs were totally fried from the last few days.

  • BPUs too deliberate, should have hit 100

125-lb thruster

  • 2 attempts @ 125, with progression 70-95-110-120-x125x-125
  • Like Andridge said: start heavier. We just did heavy T's last week, and you'll be surprised how much power you have after BPUs/runs.

WORKOUT THEMES

Monostructural, gymnastics, and weightlifting. A test that's part of a bigger test to weed out everyone but the absolute best at CrossFit. Two separate segments - one more strength and one more conditioning. Pushing with skill, jumping with accuracy, pulling, and probably the only measurable, observable, repeatable way to include running in an Open workout.


SHORT MEDIUM LONG


LIGHT x


MEDIUM


HEAVY x


SIMPLICITY SCALE

AMRAP in 20 minutes of:

Shuttle run

5 burpee pull-ups

1 thruster (heavy)


STAMINA SCALE

4 rounds of:

800 meter run

10 thrusters

10 burpee pull-ups


SPEED SCALE

Simplicity scale, but rest as needed between exercises so you can emphasize going as fast as possible from rep to rep

I did 5 burpee pull-ups and a backpedal shuttle run. 14 rounds + 3 burpee pull-ups in 15 minutes

My Achilles limited me a bit but whatever.

My advice as a just ok CrossFittter......

go heavier than you think on the thruster. 5 min is a lot of time, but it goes by sort of quickly

I started at 115, 125, 145, 155, 160 F Should have done 135/150/165 with a bit more rest between sets.

I've never felt like re-doing an open wod, but this one.....I might.

Again, just my opinion

Looking forward to seeing some great #'s from you all.

Nice work and some sound advice Mike! I was smoked after that 15 minutes! I did 135, 145, 155, and lost too mush time grabbing some more plates to go to 165#.
